It’s never easy “firing” a patient. But we do a disservice to those who truly want our care if we are constantly trying to help those who need a little more time. Not everyone is ready to be helped or wants to be helped. And that is okay.
I think patients value the relationship more when they know and uphold their rights and responsibilities. Also staff must feel protected from abusive patients.
Thx, Elliot, I"m in a similar situation as you. But even during my private practice years, dismissing a patient from the practice was a very rare event. I think our obligation to help all patients - not just the easy ones - is deeply embedded in the profession's culture. Thanks for reaching out.
